Last minute bid to buy Mary Anning letter

The Jurassic Coast Trust in partnership with Lyme Regis Museum has launched an emergency Crowdfunding campaign to purchase a letter written by fossil hunter Mary Anning
The Jurassic Coast Trust, in partnership with Lyme Regis Museum, are hoping to save a hand-written letter by pioneering palaeontologist Mary Anning. This exceptional letter, sent to Rev. William Buckland in 1829 regarding a box of coprolite (fossil poo) and detailing a new Plesiosaur that Mary had discovered at Lyme Regis where she lived, is due to come under the hammer at Sotheby’s at 2pm today.
As of this morning, the Crowdfunding campaign has raised 75% of their target of £18,000 from over 400 people. They’re now doing one last push to ge to their target ahead of the auction today. They have set up a set up a dedicated JustGiving Crowdfunding page and any donation you can make, no matter how small, will help to bring this special piece of Dorset history back to Lyme Regis Museum where it will be displayed in their Mary Anning Gallery.
