Dorset Wildlife Trust is inviting everyone to get out and explore Dorset this Easter. Whether it is coast or countryside, the changing seasons reveal something new even in the most familiar of places
In the countryside
With woodlands adorned with carpets of bluebells and the hedgerows coming to life with spring flowers, spending time in the countryside is a feast for the senses.
Birds’ nests and eggs
At this Caterpillar Kids event at Lorton Meadows children learn how tricky it is to build a birds’ nest. They can get creative with wildlife-inspired piece of artwork, enjoy wildlife-themed games and let off steam in the natural play area. Children £3, must be accompanied. Minibeast Madness - 19 April
Search under logs for beetles, bugs and millipedes, plus games, art and more at Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre DT3 5QH.
Tiny Tadpoles - 21 April
Explore the ponds at Lorton Meadows and discover the lifecycle of amphibians – frogs, newts and toads, plus games, art and more.

Kingcombe Spring Easter Weekend
A variety of activities are taking place in and around the Kingcombe Centre in Toller Porcorum near Dorchester over Easter. Browse The Wild Plant Year art exhibition by local artist Christina Hart-Davies, take part in our spring walk exploring Kingcombe Meadows followed by tea in the Kingcombe Café, or get creative in the ‘Willow for the Garden’ two day workshop with Richard Kerwood where you create plant supports, hurdles or structures for the garden (Cost: Residential £219, Non Rresidential £179 pre-booking essential on 01300 320684). Lorton Eggsplorers Trail
Running everyday during the Easter weekend, families are invited to collect a 30-45 minute trail guide from the Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre and hunt for clues around the reserve to find out about the local wildlife and solve a mystery. Those who complete the trail will be rewarded with an edible Easter prize! £2 per child, must be accompanied. Booking essential 01305 816546.

Reptile Ramble on Upton Heath
Enjoy snake and lizard themed activities plus a ramble to find real reptiles in the wild! 10am – 1pm. Suggested donation £3 per child. More details 01202 692033.

By the sea
Wherever you are in Dorset, you’re never far away from the sea, and there’s plenty to do by it – help clean it, learn about the local wildlife or go beachcombing for treasures blown in from the Atlantic.
Chesil Beach Seashore Scavengers
Explore Chesil Beach on this guided ramble hunting for beautiful pink seafans, shark eggcases and other treasures blown in from the Atlantic. Adults £3, Children £2. No booking needed. More at dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/chesilbeach.

Seashore Safari at Fleet Lagoon - 11 & 13 April

Great Kimmeridge Eggcase Hunt - 11 April

Rockpool Ramble at Kimmeridge - 12 April

Chesil Rocks! - 17 April
Discover the secrets of Chesil Beach & the Fleet Lagoon in this whistle-stop tour which covers everything geology to wildlife and history. Runs 11am – 12.30pm. Meet Chesil Beach Centre DT4 9XE. Adults £3, Children £2.
Arty Ocean Activities - 19 April
Make ocean-themed items to take home at these sessions at Fine Foundation Marine Centre, Kimmeridge BH20 5PF. Runs 11am -1pm & 2 -4pm. £2.50 per child. Booking essential on 01929 481044.
The Great Dorset Beach Clean
At this annual event residents in Dorset and east Devon are asked to do something positive towards keeping our beaches clean, for people and the benefit of wildlife. Chesil Beach [DT4 9XE] is one of Dorset’s most spectacular beaches, so join us for a shoreline spring clean. There’s a 10% discount at the Taste* Café for those taking part, and free parking. All equipment provided. Also at Worbarrow Bay - from Tyneham, follow signs to beach.

Extreme Low Tide Rockpool Ramble at Kimmeridge Bay
Join DWT Marine Awareness Officer Julie Hatcher at Kimmeridge Bay for this ramble of the best rock-pooling site in Dorset. On this free event explore the beach during one of the lowest tides of the year and discover secrets of the usually hidden underwater world. Wear suitable footwear.
