Here are a few ideas for things to see and do this August around Dorset....

Wednesday 1st August Flowers by Candlelight On the first four Wednesdays in August at dusk, Bournemouth Gardens will be transformed into a magical oasis of twinkling lights, thanks to 'Flowers by Candlelight', a traditional event for Bournemouth which has been running for over 110years. Meet: Bournemouth Gardens.


Saturday 4th August 11am Weymouth Lifeboat Week Open Day The Weymouth Lifeboat crew invite the public to have a guided tour of both the Weymouth All Weather and Weymouth Inshore Lifeboats. The volunteer crew will be on hand to show you around the boats and share their experiences of the different types of rescues undertaken in the call of duty. Free. Meet: Weymouth Lifeboat Station, Weymouth.


Tuesday 7th August 2pm-2.30pm Beach and Bacon Butty Wander Wanders are approximately two miles covering flat terrain. Some stile may be encountered. Adults £5. Tel 01425 470721 Meet: Moors Valley Country Park, nr Ringwood.


Saturday 18th August 7pm Wildlife Windows - Badger Watching If you love badgers, then this is for you. This event is not suitable for children under 14. Adults £10. Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th August Falconry Flying Displays Local Falconer, Vaughn Sargent, will have his falcons on display throughout each day over the Bank Holiday Weekend. He will be available to talk to you about his birds, their lifestyles, what they eat, how they hunt and the history of falconry. Normal admission charges apply. Tel: 01305 871858. Every Sunday 1pm Fossil Hunting Fossil Hunting with Dr Colin Dawes PhD, as featured on National TV with Monty Don, Adam Hart Davis etc. Every Sunday, all year. Also every Wednesday and Friday from Good Friday to the end of September and daily during half terms. If you don't find a fossil he will give you one! No need to book, just turn up; the more people, the more chance of finding a rare specimen. Meet: The Old Forge Fossil Shop (opposite the Royal Lion Hotel), Lyme Regis.
