The great out doors!

Experts in paint and paper, Farrow & Ball have been working with local businesses in Wimborne to help rejuvenate the town. The locally based company gave 30 businesses free exterior paint of their choice to repaint their front doors.

Colours ranged from the bold and bright. Gulliver’s Bookshop painted their door in Arsenic, Minster Sweets chose Cook’s Blue and Spill the Beans went for Blazer.

While others opted for classic shades like Pitch Black chosen by Winston’s Blighty Barber Shop, Green Smoke, opted for by Brights of Nettlebed and Rectory Red, selected by Jacob & Reeves Solicitors.

Every door that has been painted, from East Street to West Street, the High Street to West Borough, has a plaque inside stating which colour has been used, so if you notice a newly painted front door you admire pop in and see if it’s part of the Wimborne Front Door venture.

Dorchester’s Great War

To mark the centenary of the beginning of World War One, the Corn Exchange is hosting a World War One themed exhibition on 8th August. Visitors to the free event will be able to experience what life was like in Dorchester during the Great War, which took the lives of over 4,500 Dorset soldiers. There’s a chance to dress up in a Tommy uniform, tuck into war ration stew, try your hand at trench art and go on a geocaching adventure along the ‘Walking in their Shoes’ trail. There will also be talks by local historian Brian Bates and Chris Copson of the Keep Military Museum. Visitors are encouraged to bring along war memorabilia to be identified by experts and share family stories from the battlefield or the home front. The event is opened by the Mayor at 10am and doors close at 7pm.
