Local Business celebrates a successful first 18 months of trading

Weston Super Mare based company, The Bi-Folding Door Company South West, has enjoyed a successful start to trading; owner Mark Andrews explains why...

ITS nice to hear in these times of doom and gloom of a local success story! Starting their business in what some people have called the deepest recession this country has known was a brave move by Mark and Debbie Andrews in Somerset.

However, fortune favours the brave as they say! The Bi-Folding Door Company South West have just celebrated their first anniversary and are going from strength to strength! Mark explains why he thinks they have been so successful:

Very simple. Before we started the business we looked at things from our customers point of view; what would they want in an ideal world and that gave us our philosophy and basis to build on. Knowledgeable people who can offer advice and guidance whilst letting the client have the right product for their project with no limitations. To achieve this we decided not to manufacture, this gives us the flexibility to find and offer our clients the right product for them rather than just offering what we make!

Do we need a showroom? No, every project is unique so products in a showroom would serve no purpose, we prefer to take people to visit existing jobs, look at the doors in real life, meet our clients, ask them if they could choose again would they still use our company? We also believe that whilst times are tough, local businesses should stick together. All of our products are sourced or commissioned from local craftsmen and all of our installers are local.

During our first year we have completed projects from Falmouth to Farrington Gurney and have a bank of live projects we are working on covering every county in the South West. In the main we work directly with the end client but are also starting to become involved in projects where we have been invited by the builder or architect.

How long a project takes from first ideas to completion does not matter to us; only that our customers are pleased with the end result and our service exceeds their expectations. If we continue with that as our guide we are confident we will continue to flourish in both recession and boom times. We would like to thank all of our clients and suppliers for their support in our first year and look forward to making many new friends over the next 12 months.
