A cockle warming cocktail from Lloyd Brown of the Venner Bar at The Bull in Bridport
When the wind is howling and the mercury is falling there’s nothing better than sitting in front of an open fire, drinking a hot buttered rum. Never tried it before? Well you should. It’s simple to make and has a soft warming flavour. It blends Jamaican rum with Dorset dry cider. I think of it as apple-infused sunshine in a glass!
2 teaspoons of runny honey
1 knob of unsalted butter
50ml Appleton Estate VX golden rum
Top with hot dry cider
Finally finish with freshly grated nutmeg
Combine all the ingredients and serve in a large preheated mug, garnished with a stick of cinnamon and a slice of lemon studded with cloves. You will need to stir it before each sip to integrate the butter and give the drink its silky consistency.
