Best Independent Retailer

An amazing deli counter and a fabulous range of fresh fruit and vegetables caught our judges’ eye for this award

The coveted award of Independent Retailer of the Year was kindly sponsored by Fiona Penny at Sunflowers. Our judges were in search of someone who consistently shows expert knowledge and unrivalled passion for his or her trade, be it a deli, a wine or beer store, the village green grocer or a baker, or something more unusual.

This year's finalists are…

The Green Weigh, Bridport - the South West's first mobile zero waste Shop on wheels, designed to help as many people as possible to reduce their plastic consumption. With regular local market stops, a click and collect service and a shop in Bridport, there are many ways to shop 'the green weigh'.

The Wobbly Cottage, Broadwindsor - an Artisan Micro Bakery based in the lovely village of Broadwindsor. Their speciality is long fermentation Sourdough bread, made using traditional methods. They offer a constantly changing line up of Cakes, Pastries & Confectionaries as well as their distinctive Jams, Pickles & Chutneys all made from their kitchen using local, seasonal produce.

And this year's winner is…

Gullivers Farm Shop, West Moors - Part of the Sturts Community Trust, Gullivers Farm shop help to provide meaningful activities and work opportunities for adults who have a learning disability or other support needs. The farm shop has the most amazing deli counter, offering the most mouth-watering local treats, in addition, to selling a range of products including fresh fruit and vegetables grown on their own organic farm.

A huge congratulations to our winner and our finalists. Thank you to the public for their many nominations, and to our well-respected judges who picked our worthy winner of the 'Independent Retailer of the Year Award', sponsored by Fiona Penny at Sunflowers.
