Eco-Champion of the Year

Our judges were in search of the businesses going above and beyond to be that bit greener

2019's Eco-Champion of the Year award is kindly sponsored by Sculpture by the Lakes, and it recognises a local food or drink related business that goes the extra mile for the environment by implementing sustainable practices. Judges looked for businesses that have reduced their impact on the environment through a specific initiative or a long-term improvement. For example, perhaps they're reducing single use plastic, encouraging customers to reduce or recycle their waste, or offering incentives to customers to have their takeaway coffee served in their own reusable cup. Judges also looked to see if the business is involved in any local clean-up events or any other inspiring initiatives.

This year's finalists are…

Anna's Ice Lollies, Wareham - Anna's sorbet lollies are made from pure fruit pulp, with no added artificial anything. The lollies are completely plastic free, wrapped in a plant-based biofilm which are completely biodegradable and fully compostable.

Naked Brace, Poundbury - Launched last year Naked Brace is a zero single-use plastic retail area. Their mission is to provide a shop full of quality ingredients that you purchase without any single use plastic.

And this year's winner is…

BeeWrap UK, Bournemouth - BeeWraps are the ideal alternative to cling film, foil and plastic food bags. Made from 100% Cotton, Beeswax, Pine Rosin and a touch of Jojoba oil. BeeWraps are beautifully natural and a great way to wrap your food over and over again without any toxins leaching into your food as they do with plastics.

A huge congratulations to our winner and our finalists. Thank you to the public for their many nominations, and to our well-respected judges who picked our worthy winner of the 'Eco-Champion of the Year Award', sponsored by Sculpture by the Lakes.
