From a quirky secret garden to a plant lover’s paradise, these NGS venues offer some glorious late summer displays, and there are some garden masterclasses to inspire too
The Secret Garden and Serles House
Ingenious use of unusual plants complements the imaginative treasure trove of garden artworks at one of the most unexpected and creative gardens opening for the National Gardens Scheme. Then step in to a theatrical world of whimsical fantasy at Serles House. Homemade teas.

This secluded and magical one acre garden, created over 40 years, captures the spirit of warmer climes. It offers enormous variety, with a Mediterranean courtyard, herbaceous borders and woodland garden. Lush foliage and vibrant flowers give year-round interest, enhanced by sculpture and topiary. Explore this cottage garden with colour-themed borders and pleached limes. Cross over a chalk stream to a shady area with unusual plants and admire wire bird sculptures created by a local artist. Cream teas.

Admire late-season exuberant planting amongst swathes of tall grasses in this half-acre plant lover’s garden. Also wildlife pond, woodland area, plants to attract bees and butterflies. Homemade teas.
