Editor’s Choice - Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival - 8-15 October

Expect some intriguing encounters at this autumn arts festival which brings original and inspiring pieces to both indoor venues and outdoor spaces throughout the town. This year’s eclectic line-up includes pyro experts Walk The Plank with their interactive Sea of Freaks Torchlit Procession on the opening weekend. While the internationally acclaimed Compagnie Des Quidams’ fantastic, and magical metamorphosing horses in Fier A Cheval close the eight day spectacle of dance, performance art, classical music, theatre, art, workshops and fun family friendly activities.

Running throughout is Sounds By The Sea at a number of locations, including Bournemouth’s iconic Bandstand in The Lower Gardens, featuring artists from the Caribbean-inspired Merry Makers Steel Pans Band to local legends, the Mother Uckers.

EXHIBITIONS

David Bent - Until 16 October

Exhibition at Russell-Cotes Gallery and Museum in Bournemouth features Bent’s aviation passion and ability to capture the art of flight on canvas.

Return to the Wild/Faces & Places - 6 – 19 October

Two exhibitions by Lyme Regis artists at the Town Mill Gallery. One features nature-inspired paintings, ceramics, photographs and sculptures; the other features portraits, still life, landscapes and textiles.

The Language of Colour - Until 29 October

The vibrancy and emotion of colour and the effects of the changing light on seascape, landscape, street scene or garden is explored by a range of Dorset artists in this exhibition at the Gallery at 41 in Corfe Castle.

The Tempest - 6 October

Leviathan - 6 - 7 October

Paradise Lost - 8 October

Sara Pascoe & Friends - 15 October
