Dorset One World Festival | Saturday 9th August 2014 – 11-5pm – free | Borough Gardens, Dorchester

Bollywood dance workshop hosted by Bishan Dance in Weymouth is just one of the many cultural activities taking place at the Dorset One World Festival in August.

Bishan studied at the famous Shilpocala Dance Academy in Asia and is passionate about teaching people this fun and energetic dance. If you would like to join Bishan – come and join the dance workshop at 1pm on Saturday 9th August at the Borough Gardens, Dorchester.

Dorset One World Festival is back for its 6th year to celebrate the diversity of cultures in Dorset through world music & dance, food, activities, and games.

The festival is aimed at improving understanding of other cultures in Dorset with a programme of both traditional and modern cultural activities performed by the communities in Dorset and further afield.

Enjoy a wide selection of cuisines from the Global Food Village whilst soaking up the sounds of performances of Africa, Cuba, China, Scotland, Latin America, India and Dorset.

The Global Food Village will offer affordable cuisine from Africa, the Caribbean, Poland, Spain, India and Bangladesh plus traditional ice-creams and Italian pizzas.

A range of workshops and demonstrations include: Bollywood Dance, African Drumming, Sitar, singing, Scottish country dancing, Judo and Kabbadi.

The sports area hosts the annual Tug of War competition, Indian Kabbadi and activities for children and young people. Kids Zone will offer a range of crafts, face painting and Henna tattoos.

For a more relaxing experience, there is Chi Kung gentle exercise for the less mobile and Indian Head Massage treatments

“We hope that residents and visitors come and enjoy the festival from all corners of Dorset and experience a fun, friendly and culturally enriching day “ said Sarah Reeves, Co-ordinator.
