The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) celebrates 85 years of gardening and giving this year.

The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) celebrates 85 years of gardening and giving this year. Last year the NGS donated more than
2.6 million to charities, including Marie Curie Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Here is a selection of the gardens open to the public for the NGS in May. So enjoy these beautiful Dorset gardens, and help contribute to a worthwhile cause. Children admitted free unless indicated.



Wolverhollow


Over one acre of informal garden, with an unusual summerhouse; borders and rockeries feature a wide variety of colourful and unusual plants. The garden extends into a meadow and streamside planting with a glorious abundance
of primulas.


Open: 7, 8, 28 & 29 May,
11am-5pm. Teas. Adults 3

Pilsdon View


This evolving garden is set over different levels and areas with breathtaking views towards Pilsdon. Water features and wildlife add to the essence of this award-winning garden, which won Large Garden and Best Overall Garden in the Melplash Show Gardens Competition.

Resting Laurels


The immaculate lawns set off the planting in this -acre green oasis.
The difficult sandy soil supports many mature trees and shrubs with good focal points and an exciting pond area and organic kitchen garden. Featured in Amateur Gardener.

Mayfield


Town garden of approx acre with formal hard landscaping planted with drought-resistant shrubs and perennials and shady area with wide variety of hostas at the front, while the back has winding beds, arches, a pond and greenhouses containing succulents.

Chine View


Unique Chine garden adjacent to a public footpath leading to a beach; features include extensive terraced rockery of Purbeck stone, a Palladian rotunda, water features, sculptural pieces, subtropical plants and a profusion of azaleas and rhododendrons

Snape Cottage Plantsmans Garden


Mature country garden containing exceptional collection of hardy plants and bulbs, artistically arranged in an informal cottage garden style, organically managed and clearly labelled. Specialities include old daffodils, pulmonarias, auriculas, herbs, irises and geraniums. The garden benefits from a wildlife pond, beautiful views and a tranquil atmosphere.
