Sunday lunch at The White Post is a truly social affair as a board of succulent roasted meats are placed on the table for diners to share. The stars of the show are the roast rib of beef, roasted lamb, loin of pork and pot roasted chicken. Sides include giant Yorkshire puddings, parsnips and potatoes cooked in dripping and red cabbage cooked in Dorset cider served with cauliflower and broccoli cheese. No wonder The White Post is a previous winner of ‘Roast of the Year’ at the Dorset Food, Drink and Farming Awards...
The whole family is invited for Sunday lunch at The Three Horseshoes; muddy boots and wagging tails included. There’s a choice of beef, pork and chicken on the menu, all served with a generous helping of goose fat roasties, seasonal vegetables and cauli-cheese.
This pub is perfect come rain or shine as lunch can be enjoyed fireside in the winter and al fresco in the beer garden in the summer. Make sure you leave room for pudding as there’s sticky toffee pudding on the menu with Bourbon sauce and Dorset clotted cream. Yum!

Sunday lunch is served between 12 and 2.30pm with a choice of pork, lamb or beef sourced from local butchers; Blackmore Vale Butchery and Andrew Barclay. If you’re struggling to pick just one you can always opt for the ‘trio of meats’ instead.

You can always opt for the Sunday sharer - a selection of beef, pork, lamb or prime rib, cooked to your party’s liking and carved at the table. Afterwards, walk it off with a slow ramble around Portesham; a beautiful village with thatched cottages and surrounded by rolling countryside.
With a wood-fired oven at its heart, The Larder House is a charming restaurant and bar serving one of the best Sunday lunches in Dorset. From wood-roasted chicken (served with pigs in blankets all year round), to slow-cooked lamb shoulder and topside of beef - the only difficult part of eating here is choosing what to eat. Complete the meal with a digestif in the speakeasy cocktail bar called The Library, open Thursday to Sunday.

There’s a different roast meat on the menu each week. Take advantage of the offer available every weekend which consists of two courses for £20 or three for £25. And don’t miss the drinks menu too, where there’s always a number of unusual and inviting concoctions available. We like the sound of the Blood Orange Mimosa.
The Shave Cross Inn can be recognised by its thatched roof and beautiful wisteria growing across the front of the pub. Take a step inside and the inn is just as inviting with plenty of cosy nooks and crannies to while away a Sunday afternoon with a hearty lunch and great company.
The roast menu changes each week to reflect what’s been sourced from the local butcher. One course is £15.50, two courses are £18.50 and if you’ve still got room, you can eat all three courses for just £21.50. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend our Sunday!
The Hambro Arms can be found in one of Dorset’s prettiest villages and it certainly has the decor to match its location with exposed brick walls, beamed ceilings and a toasty log burner for those cold winter days. Dogs are welcome in the bar area so you can enjoy Sunday lunch with Fido at your feet.
There’s always three roast meat options to choose from and ingredients are sourced locally from Jurassic Coast Meats , Mato’s of Blandford and Steepton Bill Farm to name just a few of the suppliers at the Hambro Arms.
The weekday menu at The Wise Man is superb but our favourite day of the week is on a Sunday when there’s beef, turkey and lamb. All meats are served with a helping of seasonal vegetables and crunchy roast potatoes in addition to a number of sides designed to complement your roast.
The dessert menu is just as good as the roast with a number of whimsical twists on the traditional pud to choose from. We like the sound of the lemon curd Bakewell tart or the pear and gingerbread crumble.
The Salt Pig in Swanage and Wareham is famous for its breakfasts, brunches and urban farm shop but did you know they do a cracking roast on a Sunday too? Take your pick from Wytch Farm roasted beef, Tyneham Valley lamb and The Salt Pig’s very own pork - all served with rustic roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding (they’re not just for beef y’know) and vegetables. Best of all, the beef is served rare. We’re drooling just thinking about it…
